the integration between law and technology
Methodology and innovative conceptual approach
The ReCEPL4STAI Centre of Excellence is distinguished by its strongly innovative character, grounded in the structured integration of legal sciences and STEM disciplines in the study and governance of artificial intelligence.
Within this framework, the research activities aim to redefine AI governance through an unprecedented integration between legal scholarship and STEM expertise.

A synergistic approach
Practical and replicable tools
Overcoming the traditional separation between law and technology, the project develops a methodological framework that translates EU values into operational standards for the design of AI systems. Through the synergy of research, high-level training and stakeholder engagement, the Centre transforms scientific findings into practical and replicable tools, consolidating Europe’s leadership in the development of human-centric, trustworthy and sustainable AI.
The methodology adopted ensures that compliance with fundamental rights is embedded according to a compliance and ethics-by-design perspective.

an interdisciplinary methodological framework
The dialogue among experts
The innovative element lies in the development of an interdisciplinary methodological framework capable of translating the principles and values of the European Union into operational criteria for the design and implementation of AI systems. In this respect, the project moves beyond traditional approaches—often limited to purely legal or technological analyses—by promoting systematic dialogue among legal experts, engineers and other relevant stakeholders.

Mixed-Methodological Framework
A multi-layered strategy
The Centre will target diverse participants, including undergraduate and postgraduate students, PhD researchers, academic faculty, JS and STEM practitioners, industry, policymakers, public administration, civil society and the general public. The project will implement a multi-layered strategy to enhance engagement:
Generate knowledge
Generate knowledge on the Project topic to support EU policy-making and train the new generation of professionals.
Bring EU to public
Bring the EU closer to the general public, empowering stakeholders at all levels, especially those unfamiliar with European studies.
Outcomes into knowledge
Translate research outcomes into actionable policy recommendations to generate knowledge.
Know IA policies
Convert complex policies and issues related to AI development in an accessible and clear manner.
Reaching stakeholders
Developing a comprehensive dissemination strategy to reach stakeholders at national and EU levels.
AI applications
Gather expertise on European studies, with a focus on the legal and engineering issues related to AI applications in the three select domains, through an interdisciplinary approach.
OUR OBJECTIVES
Transnational Approach
International experts
The involvement of international experts in research activities.
Young researchers
The promotion of young researchers from all parts of the world through interdisciplinary initiatives.
Academic exchange
The implementation of a Teaching Fellowship Programme to foster international academic exchange.
